Spirits, Demons, Angels, White clothes and People floating in the air is what comes to mind when we talk of horror movies. This genre is not for the faint hearted but for those seeking adventure, the offbeat and unusual experiences while watching a movie.


The genre of horror movies and the experience of watching it has evolved over a period of time tremendously. Thanks to the latest technologies that enable special effects and the 3D experience, the entire experience of watching a horror movie has changed. Gone are days when simple costume designs and painful music would be sufficient to entice viewers to see and continue watching it.

1)     A Quiet Place- Apocalypse has brought an end to the normal routine lives of people. Post this, a family is forced to live in silence as there are monsters that are ultra sensitive on hearing ability and attack anyone who makes any sort of noise. Rated at 7.5 on IMDB, it is a must watch.




2)     The Exorcist- Based on a real life incident that happened in USA, the film is about a 12 year old girl who is possessed by demonic forces. The film shows how her mother tries to rescue her child with the help of a priest. The movie will definitely give goose bumps to anyone who is afraid of demons. 




3)     The Exorcism of Emily Rose- Based on a real life incident in Germany, the film follows a girl in her teens who experiences strange medical conditions which seem a bit stressed out at first. However, with time her medical condition worsens and her behavior convinces her parents that she might be possessed by demons. The film is considered one of best horror movies based on exorcism and real life incidents. 




4)     The Conjuring (1 and 2)- Based on real life stories of ghost hunters Ed and Lorraine who had investigated over hundreds of ghost encounters and places, the films are a class apart when it comes to demons and paranormal encounters. Both the movies can leave you awestruck by the excellent direction and great shots. It is recommended that you watch these with a partner. 




5)     The Nun- Based on a fictional account, the film is about a Roman Catholic Priest and a Nun in Romania who are experiencing strange and demonic experiences in 1952. The film revolves around a church where it is believed that the demons were buried beneath the ground and the doors closed using the holy blood of Christ. However, the World War 2 damaged the church’s interiors and some demons were able to come out and wreak havoc on the Nuns and Priest.
